I heard this song today and it's one I've liked for quite a long time. As I've listened to it time and again, it's always struck a chord with me. It does so because there have been times in my life where I have known people to deliberately put me down with words to build themselves up. What they do can harm a person's psyche much greater than physical damage done, for the scars last within your mind and memory for a lifetime. I sit here dozens of years later, when I was first brought down with words and still battle self-confidence issues. While I know I should be more confident, I sometimes lack in it due to what I remember. It's not a fun way to live and never something that I like waking up with. And then I think about those people who did that to me and think of what a cowardly thing that was. Cowardly.
Not too long ago, I was put down once again in the same fashion and form. Someone with no class or taste used their words to speak condescendingly of me and put me down, when they did not have the solid facts of the matter. This person also acted cowardly, for he/she could do nothing more for their very own pain in life than to strike me down. It's a shame really, for it is a person like this who must feel very ugly on the inside to do such a thing. I could never do that to another, nor would I. I have enough issues of my own than to judge or condescend or put another down with what I say. They did so thinking they would bring me down to my knees. They were so very wrong, for I kept standing and standing strong.
So I go back to the lyrics of this song that struck such a chord and why I write this here...
"<b>I am beautiful no matter what they say, words can't bring me down</b>"...First of all, this is true. This is all true and I'm not going to let a person who uses words in that fashion to hurt me. I won't. I'm going to stay beautiful no matter what.
"<b>We are beautiful in every single way, words can't bring us down</b>"...Again, this is also true. We are all beautiful and we should all consider ourselves as beautiful. Words cannot destroy people of good hearts and souls in life. They cannot. The cowards overall in the end lose. They lose for their hearts are bitter, sore and plain cold.
So I share this with you tonight because that chord was struck. I l feel good enough and strong enough to acknowledge that I AM BEAUTIFUL, NO MATTER WHAT ANY OTHER PERSON ON THIS EARTH SAYS. No matter what. I live life and try to touch lives. I try to make a difference to my friends, loved ones...even strangers. I actually go out of my way to make a difference in other people's lives So you cannot take my caring heart and giving soul and take any of that beauty from me. You can't. You won't.
And for all of the cowards out there...
All the cowards in life are just that and they will suffer in the cold with their shallow, bitter hearts where they can live within their own pain. Their existence and path in life is sad and it gives them a lifetime of pain. To each his own.
And that's where I stand. I hope you understand my interpretation of what I'm trying to say and express.
