Architectural prison views by genius
the way architects and artists think about space, particularly in the prison sequence where the spaces are layered one on top of the other. You actually feel like your inside the image. The lighting is dramatic and ominous. The stone forms are overwhelming. The mood is foreboding. The etchings are rich with the imagery of time and nature devouring the subjects. The drawings are inspiring precisely because they are rich with imagination. And that brings us to the idea for the day. ...

2008 book cover---YOUR views required!
Here is a proposed book cover for ICONS AND IDOLS sent from the publisher a few months ago. I am looking for feed back as to its effectiveness. Please let me know if this would jump out at on a book shelve? (Of course, you want to buy it, don't you, don't you, don't you?)
PLUS:
The title may be changed to “Icons and Idols: Pop goes the Culture.” Do you feel this is a more effective title to “a portrait to our times.”
ABOUT ICONS AND IDOLS: Icons and Idols will be a humorous coffee-table complete with my paintings of famous people and will be accompanied with minimal text about each person. It is a satire of pop culture, the...

The Miracle - Sarah Perry
The Miracle by Los Angeles artist Sarah Perry. Here, Einstein's face appears on a tortilla.
Sarah's work reflects a worldview in which the mystery of the scientific observation of the natural world triumphs over the imagined world of superstition. She's quite possibly one of the most amazing people I have ever met.
It's currently on view at the
Angels Gate Cultural Center, through January 29, as part of the show DRAW. This piece is in the collection of Gloria and Sonny Kamm.
A MASTER INDEX LIST, FINALLY DONE! (um...maybe)
As it is known by many of my friends and contacts, I will be releasing an art book called ICONS & IDOLS. Below is my “master index list” of the famous icons and idols I have selected for the book. Many of the names you’ll see have been repeated, and that is because I have done several drawings and paintings of subjects I enjoy. Those repeats will be included in the book merely because I like how the work turned out.
By its nature, a collection of this kind will leave out many people who no doubt one will think merits inclusion, and include many one might find less momentous. I did a great deal of research in putting this book...
If I could tell her one thing
If I could tell her one thing that she would remember for the rest of her life, it would be the Albert Einstein quote that stays with me day by day...
"He who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead, his eyes are closed." - Albert Einstein.
Everyone is drawn to children because the way their faces light up at the smallest things. The wonder in a newborn's face as they look around a room never ceases to amaze me. The sad part for most people is that they lose this over time. I have some how managed to fall in love with life many times in mine.
So if I have one wish for my daughter it's that she...

"I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution." Albert Einstein

Canadian Domain Ride - Day 35
The flicker of dying light through the trees is compelling to us, like moths drawn to flame.
Apparently, Albert Einstein thought of the theory of relativity while riding on a bus past a grove of trees in the late afternoon. Research shows that rhythmic pulses of light can trigger brain activity.
