Nietzsche and the Buddha

none of you have noted the similarity between the "nothingness" in existentialism and the "emptiness" in Buddhism. Lets think about this, in reference to the self. Talk Your Way To Happiness

Ajahn Brahm: This talk revolves around the second and third factors of the Noble Eightfold Path, namely the Intentions of Renunciation, Goodwill and Harmlessness - as well as the practising of Right Speech. Always pragmatic and practical, the Dhamma taught by the Buddha 2500 years ago, correlates perfectly with contemporary concepts of psychology: deluded and and ego-intoxicated, humans project their own fears and weaknesses onto others, rather than face these within themselves. This creates ...

life to become a mendicant. For a time on his spiritual quest, Buddha "experimented with extreme asceticism, which at that time was seen as a powerful spiritual practice...such as fasting, holding the breath, and exposure of the body to pain...he found, however, that these ascetic practices brought no genuine spiritual benefits and in fact, being based on self-hatred, that they were counterproductive." After abandoning asceticism and concentrating instead upon meditation and, according to ...

Buddha School

I was getting lost on purpose in Bangkok and I came across this really cool and seemingly hidden Buddhist Monastery. In the corner of it, I found this school where young boys are brought to be trained in the ways of Buddha. These kids were all very surprised to see me, since they don't see anyone else for most of their schooling - especially white guys with big cameras. They all ran over to me and that kid with the popsicle was the most engaging, asking me what kind of person I was and what the thing in my hand was. I told him it was a camera, for taking pictures, then asked him to pose so I could show him. He and the other kids...

It’s only the reality of my inner joy who can remove the clouds in my exterior life… !!! Do I need to give a name to this inner joy like… God… Jesus… Buddha…? …No… the name given by the human culture in his history cannot be the reality… it’s only a lot of beautiful stories who showed to me the way… where the reality is… Jesus named it… Kingdom of Heaven… a name… I name it… inner joy… a name… in fact… we talk about...

Nepal - Buddha's mysterious eyes on Swayambhunath Stupa

The Buddha eyes are so prevalent throughout the country that they have become a symbol of Nepal itself. The mysterious eyes, painted on all four sides of the stupa's spire, represent the eyes of the Buddha and face the four cardinal directions--east, west, north, and south. Between each pair of eyes, where the nose would be, is what looks like a question mark....
